Alot of brothers have been asking me lately why I don’t eat meat anymore (except on rare occasions). This link shows part of the reason, although not the whole thing.

Is America a Democracy?

October 18, 2006 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

John Adams, one of America’s founding fathers said the following:

Remember, Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide. –John Adams.

As late as 1928 the “Citizenship” chapter of the U.S War Department (the precursor to the Defense Department) training manual TM-2000-25 stated:

Democracy…has been repeatedly tried without success. Our Constitutional Fathers….made a very marked distinction between a republic and a democracy…and said repeatedly and emphatically that they had founded a republic.

So all that having been said, why do the media and the politicians keep telling us that America is a Democracy?

The answer is very convoluted and betrays a certain dishonesty.

“Democracy” means lterally “People Rule”. The word is derived from the Greek words “demo” and “kracy”, which mean “people” and “rule”, respectively.

It has been observed that a true democracy could alternatively be called “mob rule”. Whatever ethnic or religious group had a mojority of the population, even 51%, would have 100% of it’s whims pass into law.

Such an arrangement, understandably, can only be temporary. What people, who are not of the majority, would consent to live under such a system in which there can be no justice for the minorities? Eventually any rational human being will rebel from such a system, provided that he or she are not of the majority party.

Let’s put this into perspective. Imagine that a law on homosexuality vs. heterosexuality is up for referendum. In a true democracy if 51% of the people who show up to the polls were to vote in a certain way, then homosexuality would be legalized and heterosexuality could be outlawed. THis ludicrous scenario could be all too real in a true democracy in which literally ANYTHING that the majority wants, the majority gets. Want to rape women? If the majority of voters agree, it could become legal. Want to do cocaine? Same result.

Get the point?

The U.S.A is actually a Republic. The word is derived from the latin “Res”, meaning concern or interest, and “Publica”, meaning everyone.

In practice a republic is a government in which the few rule on behalf of the many, with certain checks and balances betwwen them.

America does not wish to see Republics in the Middle East and the rest of the “developing world”.

Why?

Because Republics have a nasty habit of lasting. Anerica does not want strong stable governments in places like Iraq or Afghanistan. They want weak proxies that need help from America to stay in power. Failing that, then AMerica would prefer to have in place suitably beholden dictators that will crush any domestic opposition to American rule with an iron fist.

Keep your eyes open and watch places like Iraq. Watch as America undermines any potentially powerful regime, except that which they approve. Watch as America seeks to export a style of government which it does not have itself.

Democracy is flawed and America knows it. That’s why America does not have a democracy.
